READ ALL ABOUT AUTHOR CARON PESCATORE AND HER PUBLISHED BOOKS

Author Caron Pescatore is a wife, mother, registered nurse, lawyer, and children’s book author. She is the creator of the middle-grade series A Kids’ Court Whodunit, about a group of children who start a neighborhood court, solve mysteries, and mete out justice to their contemporaries.

Pescatore rediscovered her love of children’s books and storytelling when she read to her children, and she began creating short stories to share with them. A casual comment made by her husband—“you should write a book about a kid lawyer”—inspired her to write her first book, The Doll Dilemma.

Since then, Pescatore has written seven books in the Kids’ Court Whodunit series, three published, a fourth coming this August, and other releases planned over the next several months. She has also written two books in a spin-off chapter book series, featuring a secondary character from A Kids’ Court Whodunit. The first book in that series, The Lost Locket, is free through her website.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY

AUTHOR CARON PESCATORE

I am British by birth, born to Jamaican parents. When I was five, my parents moved the family back to the island, where we lived until I was almost seventeen. Growing up in Jamaica was a unique and wonderful experience. My two younger brothers and I spent our days roaming around our neighborhood, hanging out with friends, and reading—at least, I read.

All my life, my number one pastime has been reading! I was the kid who would spend most of the summer indoors reading books and going to the library several times daily, as we could only borrow one book at a time, and I would read two or three a day!

Also, I loved to write and tell stories and spent hours entertaining my family and friends with many tales. I was that kid in school who would say “ONLY 500 words?!” whenever a teacher assigned a writing assignment, limiting the word count. LOL.

My father died when I was ten, and a few years later, my mother moved us to the United States. To say I experienced culture shock would be an understatement. Ha-ha.

But I soon assimilated into my new home environment. At first, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study at school, so I drifted into nursing. I practiced the profession for several years before going back to school to study law.

One of my biggest passions is helping people, and both occupations satisfied that urge—first as an R.N., then as a public defender, working for Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. Even though I write children’s books now, I still enjoy helping people and hope that through my books, I can help children discover a love of reading and learning—and maybe even spark an interest in a legal career.
