Dover, England is not a normal town – it’s closed off, and for good reason. The Silver family home can be found here, with its ancestral secrets, passages, and strange occurrences.

Four women live in the converted bed-and-breakfast estate – Anna, Jennifer, Lily, and Miranda. The women have all felt a strong connection to each other, so when Lily (Miranda’s mom) suddenly passes away, Miranda does not take it well. In fact, very strange things begin to happen to her. She gets sick and begins starving herself and that quickly leads to hearing voices.

A newcomer in town quickly feels the eerie presence of the haunted home and everyone’s lives are flipped upside down.

White is for Witching is original, scary, bold, and beautifully written.

Bone China, by Laura Purcell, is a historical gothic thriller with plenty of dark themes that are bound to live in your dreams.

The story is in an isolated building on the Cornish coastline called Morvoren House. Myths and folktales come to life in this compelling book. People live and die based on old stories, and paranoia runs rampant. Two women who live 40 years apart visit this creepy place and must play by the rules that have been in place long before they were born.

This historical war-centric thriller is set in multiple locations – the Prussian border and the outskirts of the town of Narutsin. The locals have secrets that they aren’t willing to share with the Austrian troops who have come to defend the town. Strange disappearances are just the beginning.

When winter comes, the troops must stay in an old manor called Pokoj. An entertainer that has been following the camp stays with them. She is able to communicate with the spirits that have passed, and she knows that many ghosts haunt the halls of Pokoj.

Somehow, these ghosts are all tied to Pokoj in one way or another. They each tell her how they connect with her past, and hint at her future. This all leads up to horrors that will befall the woman and the troops.

This wouldn’t be a good list of haunted house stories if The Shining isn’t mentioned.

This popular story by Stephen King follows Jack Torrance as he navigates his new job at the Overlook Hotel. He is looking forward to a new and fresh start as a caretaker. The hotel is in its off-season, so not many patrons are coming and going. This gives him time to focus on the things that are most important to him, like his writing and his family. As winter closes in, the atmospheric hotel starts to feel remote and creepy. For a while, Jack only has foreboding feelings, but when a gifted five-year-old starts to notice the strange and terrifying vibes growing within the hotel, Jack realizes that this may not be the fresh start that he was hoping for.

Be sure to watch the movie! It is a classic Halloween horror film.

BEST HAUNTED HOUSES IN THE UNITED STATES

If you need more than popcorn and a scary movie to get into the Halloween spirit, then a real haunted house is the place for you! You can find a great one in every state. Some are hosted on real haunted properties while others might be held in an old run-down mansion or cornfield.

Haunted houses typically have bone-chilling scenes where actors play out the worst kinds of nightmares – zombies, witches, possessed beings, monsters, and killers are just some of the most popular sights.

One of the best things about haunted houses is that they are open for days, weeks, and even up to two months in some places! You don’t have to restrict your Halloween fun to just one night. You can celebrate all throughout the month of October.

Thrill-seekers from Florida to Maine to Alaska and Hawaii can easily discover the right scary spot for them. Be warned: many of these places are NOT family-friendly, so leave the little trick-or-treaters at home.

HAPPY SPOOKY SEASON! SWEET DREAMS…
