THE SORCERER’S STONE BEST BOOK QUOTES

A SHORT LIST OF the HARRY POTTER BEST BOOK QUOTES
IN THE SORCERER’S STONE

Harry Potter.

Even if you haven’t read the books, or seen the movies, or been to any of the events or theme parks, then you have at least heard of quotes from the famous series. Some of these quotes are STILL circulating on social media and being mentioned in classrooms.

For those of you who have ventured into the Wizarding World, then many of these lines will be very familiar to you. If it’s been a while since you last picked up The Sorcerers Stone, then I’m sure that some of the quotes will feel new. Maybe you will get so nostalgic that you will get an overwhelming urge to re-read the entire series…. which I 100% support!

A LEGEND

“He’ll be famous – a legend – I wouldn’t be surprised if today was known as Harry Potter day in the future – there will be books written about Harry – every child in our world will know his name!” – Professor Minerva McGonagall

TRUST

“I would trust Hagrid with my life” – Professor Dumbledore

SCARS

“Scars come in handy. I have one myself above my left knee that is a perfect map of the London underground.” – Professor Dumbledore

THE BOY WHO LIVED

“He couldn’t know that at this very moment, people meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices: “To Harry Potter – the boy who lived!” – Narrator

A pig In A Wig

“Harry Often Thought that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig.” – Harry Potter

IMPRISONED

“I’m warning you now, boy… any funny business, anything at all, – and you’ll be in that cupboard from now until Christmas.” – Vernon Dursely

PRUNE

“Ah, shut up, Dursley, yeh great prune” – Hagrid

PETTY PETUNIA

“You knew I’m a – a wizard?” – Harry Potter

“Knew! Knew! Of course, we knew! How could you not be, my dratted sister being what she was? Oh, she got a letter just like that and disappeared off to that – that school – and came home every vacation with her pockets of frog spawn, turning teacups into rats. I was the only one who saw her for what she was – a freak! But for my mother and father, oh no, it was Lily this and Lily that, they were proud of having a witch in the family! …. Then she met that Potter at school and they left and got married and had you, and of course, I knew you’d be just the same, just as strange, just as – as – abnormal – and then, if you please, she went and got herself blown up and we got landed with you!” – Petunia Dursely

A scandal!

“CAR CRASH! How could a car crash kill Lily and James Potter. It’s an outrage! A scandal! Harry Potter not knowin’ his own story when every kid in our world knows his name!” – Hagrid

Magic Tricks

“I AM NOT PAYING FOR SOME CRACKPOT OLD FOOL TO TEACH HIM MAGIC TRICKS! – Vernon Dursley

WARNING

“Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed,

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn.

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.”

– Gringotts

ANNOYING

“I really don’t think they should let the other sort in, do you? They’re just not the same, they’ve never been brought up to know our ways. Some of them have never even heard of Hogwarts until they get the letter, imagine. I think they should keep it in the old wizarding families. What’s your surname, anyway?”

– Random boy in the robes shop who we obviously know is Draco Malfoy

Potters Wands

“Ah yes. Yes, yes. I thought I’d be seeing you soon. Harry Potter. You have your mothers’ eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Ten and a quarter-inch long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work….”

“…Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wand. Eleven inches, Pliable. A little more power and excellent for transfiguration. Well, I say your father favored it – it’s really the wand that chooses the wizard, of course.” – Olivander

Phoenix Tail

“I remember every wand I’ve ever sold, Mr. Potter. Every single wand. It so happens that the phoenix whose tail feather is in your wand gave another feather – just one other. It is very curious indeed that you should be destined for this wand when its brother – why, its brother gave you that scar.” – Olivander

Chocolate and Tripe

“You want to be careful with those. When they say every flavor, they mean every flavor – you know, you get all the ordinary ones like chocolate and peppermint and marmalade, but then you can get spinach and live and tripe. George reckons he had a booker-flavored one once” – Ronald Weasley

Wrong Friends

“You’ll soon find out some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don’t want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.”    – Draco Malfoy

NERVOUS

“Harry didn’t feel brave or quick-witted or any of it at the moment. If only the hat had mentioned a house for people who felt a bit queasy, that would have been the one for him.” – Narrator

Pick Your House

“Hmmm. Difficult. Very Difficult. Plenty of courage I see. Not a bad mind either. There’s talent, oh my goodness, yes – and a nice thirst to prove yourself, now that interesting…. So, where shall I put you? …. Not Slytherin, eh? Are you sure? You could be great, you know, it’s all here, in your head, and Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, no doubt about that – no? Well, if you’re sure – better be GRYFFINDOR!” – Sorting Hat

Intro To Potions

“You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion-making. As there is little foolish wand-waving here, many of you will hardly believe this is magic. I don’t expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses… I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death – if you aren’t as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach.” – Professor Severus Snape

PRIORITIES

“I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed – or worse, expelled. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to bed” – Hermione Granger

FRIENDSHIP

“But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.” – Narrator

TWIN JOKES

“You haven’t got a letter on yours. I suppose she thinks you don’t forget your name, but we’re not stupid – we know we’re called Gred and Forge.” – George Weasley

UNICORNS 101

“That is because it is a monstrous thing, to slay a unicorn, only one who has nothing to lose, and everything to gain, would commit such a crime, The blood of a unicorn will keep you alive, even if you are an inch from death, but at a terrible price. You have slain something pure and defenseless to save yourself, and you will have but a half-life, a cursed life, from the moment the blood touches your lips.” – Firenze the Centaur

FEAR

“Fear of a name increases fear for the thing itself” – Dumbledore

THE TRUTH

“The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution” – Dumbledore

DEATH IS THE NEXT ADVENTURE

“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure” – Dumbledore

WIZARDS CHESS MASTER

“First – to Mr. Ronald Weasley for the best played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryffindor fifty points” – Dumbledore

LOGIC

“Second – to Miss Hermione Granger… for the use of cool logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindor house fifty points.” – Dumbledore

PURE NERVE

“Third – to Mr. Harry Potter…for pure nerve and outstanding courage. I award Gryffindor house sixty points.” – Dumbledore

A REAL GRYFFINDOR

“There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I, therefore, award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom.” – Dumbledore

MAGIC AT HOME

“They don’t know we’re not allowed to use magic at home. I’m going to have a lot of fun with Dudley this summer…” – Harry Potter
