A LittlE MERMAID EVENT

FEVER: LITTLE MERMAID COCKTAIL EXPERIENCE

Have you heard of Fever? It is my newest favorite thing in the entire world.

It’s a group that travels to major cities around the world, putting on the most amazing shows. Most of them are made just for our kind of people – dorks, nerds, fan girls and boys, gamers, book lovers, Netflix addicts….

I discovered the most amazing troupe via an Instagram ad. I normally skip all advertisements (they are rarely relevant, despite the algorithm). However, this ad gave me everything I didn’t know I needed.

Fever was putting on a performance in Miami, my hometown, and the theme was THE LITTLE MERMAID. But there is a twist…. Alcohol! That’s right, these events are for legally drinking adults.

Let me walk you through my experience step-by-step.

BUYING THE TICKETS at a Little mermaid event

I bought the tickets online. The cost was only $55 each. You get three drinks, a little snack, and it’s a fully interactive show.

Undoubtably, going to this event saved me money. I occasionally enjoy going out on weekends to museums, shows, dinner, and bars. I tend to spend more money than that.

Let me break this cost down for you…. Typically, in Miami, cocktails are around $15. Less if you are at a VERY casual spot, more if you are fine-dining or at a bar near the water. For 4 cocktails at $15 each, that’s $60. The price of admission for this Fever event more than pays for the drinks. And that doesn’t even include the actual show!! Shows like this one can range anywhere from a $20 entrance fee to $120.

(If anyone from Fever is reading this, please do NOT raise your prices if you don’t need it. We LOVE that this is an affordable event).

PREP for the little mermaid event

I knew that there were going to be three alcoholic drinks in the span of almost 2 hours, so I made sure to eat all day. As a light-weight, preparation is important.

I also brought a sweater. Even though its Miami, the INSIDE of most places gets a little chilly. I’m glad I did because the drinks gave me a chill.

I wore a short, tight green dress and black heels. If you are not a dress-and-heels person, pants and regular shoes work just fine. All the same, I wanted to dress up for the photos!

PARKING at the little mermaid event

We arrived right on time and parked in a little lot next to the location. I wish there had been instructions on parking, because I did second-guess whether or not I would be towed. However, there were plenty of open spots and parking was not difficult, generally.

Upon walking into the location, I discovered that there were a bunch of little shops, bars, and creative spaces. It was nice to walk through the space and see these cute pop-up shops. Although the space for the Fever show was ALL THE WAY in back, there was plenty of signage to point the way.

THE GRAND ENTRANCE at the little mermaid event

This was not MY grand entrance. But let me tell you, this entrance was GRAND. Indeed, for such a little hidden space, I could not have imagined such an amazing set-up.

The walls, the décor, the doorman – it was all set up to be a Little Mermaid experience. There was not a single thing that reminded me of the real world. In particular, it felt like stepping into … well under…the sea.

THE HALL at the little mermaid event

The lighting was dark and blue and mysterious, to begin with. The walls were decked out in corals. There were moving lights that mimicked light reflecting in the ocean. The sounds of seagulls and waves echoed along the hall.

The best part though, was the man who greeted us. Dressed as a BLANK, he stood staring out of a coral window. He didn’t move or speak until we were just a couple feet away. Honestly, I thought he was a stature until he spoke to us. I may or may not have jumped a tiny bit.

He walked us along the last few feet of the hallway and spoke as if he were a 1700’s English sailor. Of course, I was impressed and enraptured. Keep in mind, we haven’t even gotten to the main show yet! The entrance in-and-of-itself was incredible!

SEATING at the little mermaid event

Let me preface this by saying that Fever seems to excel at creating intimate shows. That is exactly what this was! Small tables were spread out around the room, with 2 to 4 chairs each. The was a full room, but it didn’t feel packed. To this end, it was very tasteful.

The inside of Fevers Little Mermaid Cocktail Experience is even grander than the entrance and hall!

They had a ship in the middle of the room. A SHIP!

Okay, so not a whole, large, or real ship. It was just the front part, with the wheel, the pretty mermaid hanging off the front, and some sails. It was a decent size though. For the most part, 5-10 people could stand at the front (for a group photo, of course).

There were also corners and wall arrangements fit for Under The Sea! Cool rock formations, spreading coral reefs, a diver, and more. These were all great photo opportunity spots. I took advantage of them… photos and videos can be found on the Books 4 Movies Instagram and Pinterest pages.

Even being one of the last to walk in, I got a spot right up front.

A lot of people avoided sitting in front because this was an interactive show. Typically, interactive shows mean that anyone in the front row will be picked on.

However, I was blessedly left alone to enjoy the show.

THE MAIN EVENT

The show begins with a character who tells us the beginning of the story. The main character is a mermaid named Pearl. Consequently, she wants to be a human. The first character is the same guy that greeted (and scared) us in the hall!

Before he gets too deep into the story, he tells us that we are getting a drink. Yay! I wont spoil it for you, but just so you’re aware, the drinks are equally as fascinating as the décor! And with the drink came a small bowl of very yummy, seasoned popcorn.

The Little Mermaid Cocktail Event

Be aware, the show was not a reproduction of The Little Mermaid. It is a wonderful spin-off. Generally, plot points are similar. Mermaid who wants to be human but dad forbids it…..

I wont give you any spoilers though! The rest of the story is funny, exciting, and not the Disney story of your childhood.
