Harry Potter TV Series Coming Soon to HBO Max

AN EPIC FANTASY - RETOLD

Have you heard the good news? Harry Potter is being remade into a Tv Series! This epic story began as a children’s book series, and within a couple of decades, has completely taken over the hearts and homes of readers and fantasy lovers around the world.

This is the spot where you can find all of the latest updates on what is happening with the new Harry Potter series!

Let’s start with some of the essentials: Who is producing it? When can we watch it? And of, course, what I personally hope the TV series will include that the movies did not.

THE HARRY POTTER TV SHOW - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW!

HBO MAX

The Potter series will stream on HBO Max!

… Well, by then the company will be called, simply, “Max”.

HBO Max is rebranding! They will no longer be called “HBO Max”. Don’t ask me why, I think it’s a strange branding choice and they should have gone in the opposite direction as becoming just “HBO”, like in the good old days.

Besides rebranding, the “Max” pricing will change. *insert dramatic and disappointed sigh*.

But, Potter will be available both in the streaming service AND if you have HBO “Max” with your cable provider.

(Do people still use cable?)

WHEN WILL IT AIR?

Don’t hold your breath! The first season is not expected to air until around 2025-2026.

Why is it going to take so long? Well, HBO needs to do a bit of rebranding, and they have to hire the actors and… well, it’s a lot of work! First things first – find a writer! Warner Bros. and HBO Max are currently scouting for writers to take the Harry Potter books and turn them into an epic tv series to last 10 years.

I don’t mind waiting, as long as they use this time to make this tv series a solid adaptation that stays true to the books.

WHO ARE THE ACTORS?

Good question! I don’t know.

In fact, casting has not officially begun yet. We don’t even know if the original movie actors (ie Emma, Daniel, and Rupert) will make guest appearances in the show.

If they do, it better not be in a cheesy way! I’m talking to you @ Casey Bloys and J.K Rowling!

WHAT WILL THE WIZARDING WORLD IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA DO?

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure have proudly built an entire Wizarding World section that connects both parks together with the Hogwarts Express train. Both parks have rides, shops, and food that make you feel like you are actually a witch or wizard.

The look of every ride, store, piece of merchandise, and spell is based on the Harry Potter MOVIES. So, how is a TV Show going to affect things?

Will the theme park change their aesthetic to fit what happens in the show? Will there be a combination of elements from the movies and show? Or will the park remain true to the original movies, even as more adaptations are created over the years? Only time may tell…

Other Things to Look forward to

There are seven books in the Harry Potter series, which means that Warner Bros. is planning on airing SEVEN seasons! These seasons will be aired over the course of 10 years. Now, naturally, many of us assume that 7 books into 7 seasons over the course of 7 years make sense. That is the pattern that other adaptations and tv series producers tend to follow. But maybe a new season will air every 1 1/2 years. OR, we will be blessed with 10 full seasons instead of 7! There are certainly enough backstories and details in the books that could go into an extra couple of seasons.

Not that the producers are going to bother asking my advice, but the first two seasons should be the backstories of some of the older characters. Lily and James, Snape, the Marauders, Tom Riddle… basically everything in between Dumbledore’s life and Harry Potter’s life.

If you are thinking about Fantastic Beasts, I’m sorry to say that the producers have already confirmed that this tv series will NOT include the incredible Wizarding World spin-off stories.

According to the Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, Casey Bloys, this is going to be “a faithful adaptation.” As a self-appointed adaptations expert, I have little faith that the tv series will be what all of us readers actually want.

Movies and shows always leave out key characters and scenes, but maybe this time around, producers will actually listen to what we have been asking for all these years.

THINGS THAT I HOPE THE TV SHOW WILL INCLUDE,
THAT THE MOVIES DIDN'T

This list could go on for ages. There are a TON of things that the Harry Potter movies did not adapt from the books. Maybe the TV Shows will be able to include most of these, since the run-time will be longer and their production budget will be higher than it was for the first couple of movies.
