BOOK TO BIG SCREEN BANNER

Why Frost & Shadows NEEDS a film adaptation

Magic and combat? This young adult fantasy has it all.

I am a true dork with two great passions: books and the wilderness. These two passions collide in Frost & Shadows. I strove to write an inspiring tale of a young woman that teens (and adults) can look up to while potentially relating to her.

The protagonist, Emma, is no stranger to loneliness and distrust. But throughout the book, she discovers friends that she can rely upon and fights to follow her morals rather than society’s expectations.

Couple this with magic academia, intense fight scenes, and high stakes – and you won’t want to put this book down. . . *cough* I mean movie!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR of
FROST & SHADOWS

With a Diploma of College Studies in Environmental and Wildlife Management, I currently work as a Forestry Technician and have always loved wildlife and the outdoors. Pairing that passion with my love of all things fantasy was instrumental in the creation of Frost & Shadows

I enjoy travelling, camping, stand-up paddleboarding, and jogging, but most commonly, when I’m not working, I can be found hiking throughout the province of Quebec, where I live with my mixed-breed dog, Bailey.

About the book

“Souls ignite when two warriors born to destroy one another discover an unfathomable connection that changes everything.”

A high stakes magic academia with found family and forbidden love – Frost & Shadows is a must-read young-adult contemporary fantasy! Frost & Shadows follows the tale of Emma Davis, a seventeen-year-old who is one of the few in the world Blessed with a Gift by angels. With a special connection to winter, Emma has spent her life on the run to maintain her freedom, only to discover a group of friends in the very place that she was taught to hate.

When she stumbles upon an entirely new connection that links her to the very person that she is meant to fear, Emma and her friends make a decision that will thrust the world into a new age.

Writing this book, it’s clear from the beginning that I instill descriptive imagery on the environment and wildlife. But what I hoped to come out of the tale is a story where readers can learn that it’s okay to rely on others, and in spite of all the pressures put upon you, you have the strength within to listen to your heart.

WHO ARE THE ACTORS?

Why Frost & Shadows NEEDS a film adaptation Actress - Olivia Cooke - Jessie Vallee

EMMA

A young badass warrior who follows her heart and is collected even in the midst of battle – yet is still learning how to be herself in social settings rather than put on an act of a normal teenage girl.

Actress:

Olivia Cooke – She has the perfect look for Emma and I would love to see her with an ice katana in hand.

Why Frost & Shadows NEEDS a film adaptation Actor - Matthew Daddario - Jessie Vallee

DIMITRI:

The pained/damaged love interest who is quiet and reserved yet fiercely protective. If you watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he very much has an Angel personality. The actor for Angel is too old to fit Dimitri’s look though.

I would go with Matthew Daddario. We already know he does well with weapons and combat roles, he has the right build, and I can absolutely picture him with Dimitri’s silver hair.

Why Frost & Shadows NEEDS a film adaptation Actress - Elle Fanning - Jessie Vallee

ARIA:

VERY bubbly. When she rants, she talks fast and excitedly. Happy/positive by nature. I’ve had many readers say that she reminds them of Enid from Netflix’s Wednesday.

I think Elle Fanning would do an incredible job at playing Aria!

Why Frost & Shadows NEEDS a film adaptation Actor - Colin Petierre - Jessie Vallee

JIMMY:

Incredibly shy and introverted. Unsure of himself in social settings. Yet very determined when he sets his mind to something.

I picture Colin Petierre in this role!

Why Frost & Shadows NEEDS a film adaptation Actress - McKenna Grace - Jessie Vallee

MIRABEL:

She is the youngest of the group yet she’s very objective and mature. She processes facts and reacts accordingly.

Actress:
Mckenna Grace – I think for Mirabel it’s important to hire someone under 20 and Mckenna has both the youth within her as well as the pale complexity. I think she’s the perfect candidate to play the youngest of the group with the calm adult-like demeanor!

Who would direct and produce the movie or show?

Eric Heisserer – The executive producer of Shadow & Bone!

Where would it be available to view?

Netflix would take priority but I’d love if they can have an agreement with Disney+.

Which three quotes would the characters say that fans would get tattoos and make merch of?

Because I trust you.
I will always be the best version of me, so long as you are by my side.
I got you.
You will not harm her

Shadowhunters

The movie “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” takes you on a wild ride through the world of Clary Fray, a Brooklyn teen who discovers she’s not so ordinary after all. Turns out, she comes from a line of Shadowhunters – basically half-angel warriors who fight demons to keep humanity safe.

When her mom gets kidnapped, Clary teams up with a mysterious Shadowhunter named Jace to find her. Together, they journey into a hidden New York City crawling with demons and uncover family secrets that rock Clary’s world.

This movie packs in action, adventure, and a hidden world – perfect for fans of fantasy and wanting to escape into something magical.

Shadow & Bone

Alina Starkov’s life as a mapmaker in a war-torn world takes a dramatic turn when she discovers she’s a Grisha – a person with magic! Not just any magic, Alina can control light, a power that could change everything.

Now on the run with a mysterious shadow-summoning General and a crew of charming criminals, Alina has to figure out her newfound abilities and fight to save her country.

X-Men

Professor X recruits a group of teenagers with extraordinary mutant powers to his School for Gifted Youngsters. There, they learn to control their abilities and use them for good. But the world fears and misunderstands them.

These X-Men stand up for themselves and show the world what it truly means to be different!

Vampire Academy

Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir – half human, half vampire – training to be a guardian for her best friend, Moroi princess Lissa Dragomir. When danger threatens Lissa, Rose puts her guardian training to the test.

Between sneaking out, fighting Strigoi (evil vampires) and navigating the drama of vampire royalty, Rose’s life at St. Vladimir’s Academy is never dull!

Winx Club

Bloom isn’t your average teenage girl. Turns out, she’s a fairy with incredible fire powers! Along with her best friends Stella, Flora, Aisha, and Tecna, Bloom forms the Winx Club, a group of fairies dedicated to protecting the magical realm of Magix.

Together, they fight evil witches, help their friends, and learn the true meaning of friendship and magic.

Wednesday

Wednesday Addams is all grown up (well, sort of) and attending Nevermore Academy, a mysterious school for students with unique abilities. She isn’t exactly thrilled to be there, but when a monstrous killing spree grips the local town, she dives headfirst into the mystery.

Between mastering her emerging psychic abilities, dealing with her picture-perfect (and sometimes furry) roommate, and maybe even a budding romance, Wednesday has her hands full at Nevermore.

CONCLUSION

In the words of a Foreword Clarion review, “Frost & Shadows kicks off an intriguing and promising fantasy series that affirms the value of all people.”
