FEVER: The BOOZY CAULDRON
A Wiches and Wizards Experience

Fever produces AMAZING events and experiences based on your favorite books, movies, shows, and music. It is my newest favorite thing in the entire world.

Fever is made up of small groups that travel to major cities around the world, putting on these great shows. Most of them are made just for our kind of people – dorks, nerds, fan girls and boys, gamers, book lovers, Netflix addicts….

Fever was putting on a performance in Ft.Lauderdale, Fl. The theme was THE BOOZY CAULDRON. It is a spin-off of Harry Potter. There were many witch and wizards elements, but with a ghoulish twist.

Let me walk you through my experience step-by-step. Fair warning, I was drunk by the end, so forgive me some of the details start to get a little vague. There will be a couple of little spoilers in this post. However, I HIGHLY encourage you to check out this event for yourself. Especially if you are a Wizarding World fan!

Tickets at the BOOZY CAULDRON

The cost was only $55 each.

You get FOUR DRINKS with your ticket purchase.

However, Fever has this great money saving incentives program. Essentially, the more you spend, the more you save. Because I got tickets for two other Fever events (for several people), I was able to get two free tickets to this event. This rewards program is one of the best I have ever been a part of. They really encourage you to try other experiences. And I definitely do!

Let me break this cost down for you….

Typically, in South Florida, cocktails are around $15. Less if you are at a VERY casual spot, more if you are fine-dining or at a bar near the water. For 4 cocktails at $15 each, that’s $60. The price of admission for this Fever event more than pays for the drinks. And that doesn’t even include the actual show!! Shows like this one can range anywhere from a $20 entrance fee (not including drinks) to $120.

(If anyone from Fever is reading this, please do NOT raise your prices if you don’t need it. We LOVE that you have affordable events for dorks).

PREP at the BOOZY CAULDRON

I was living in Miami when The Boozy Cauldron came to Florida. They hosted the event in Ft. Lauderdale. To prepare, my friends and I left about 3 hours early. We drove for about 45 minutes, then went to dinner at a casual nearby restaurant. The event started at 10pm. One of the best things about Miami and Ft. Lauderdale is that things stay open fairly late.

Unfortunately for us, it was RAINING! And not like a little drizzle. When we were about to leave the restaurant, it started POURING. So, the only natural thing to do was to wait it out…. at the bar.

The bar was a mistake for me. I had two cocktails. Normally, this would be fine. By the end of the night, after the four (and a half) Boozy Cauldron drinks, I was not fine.

Parking at the BOOZY CAULDRON

Parking was incredibly simple. I wish they had signs, but it was not hard to figure out.

There was a garage with free parking right across from the venue. It really could not have been easier…. except, maybe, if there were signs.

THE GRAND ENTRANCE at the BOOZY CAULDRON

Im not going to lie to you, because this is an honest review. The decorations and set up for The Little Mermaid was significantly better.

The outside main entrance had small tables with black sequins tablecloths, candles, skulls, and pamphlets for the shows. There was also a stand where you could buy wands, wizard hats, and handmade jewelry. They called it Margot & Marion Wand Stand.

Inside the auditorium were two men dressed head-to-two in wizarding wardrobes. They welcomed us in with a wizarding flair.

Just past them was a delicious snack stand.

THE SNACKS at THE BOOZY CAULDRON

There was a WHOLE snack bar at the entrance of the auditorium. Popcorn, candy, chips, ice cream, and more were available for purchase. They even had a couple of themed alcoholic drinks.

Despite having just had drinks at the bar, we decided to share one of the alcoholic drinks at the snack stand. There were four of us in the group, but we bought two and split it. It probably was not the best idea, but we wanted to get the full experience.

We bought popcorn and some candy too, because snacks are important to have during all shows and movies!

SEATING at the BOOZY CAULDRON

Fever knows how to host intimate shows. That is exactly what this was! It was a small auditorium with a middle aisle leading to the stage, which was set below all of the seats. Only about 4 or 5 of the first rows held guests. We were all close to the stage.

The set was fit for a Harry Potter classroom! Only the main stage had decorations. The screen behind the actors showed images that supported the theme and story of the show. The set held all of the props, plus more decor to help set the scene.

Photos and videos can be found on the Books 4 Movies Instagram and Pinterest pages.

My friends and I were the last to enter, which is typical of us. Despite that, we were able to get good seats. Like all Fever events, this was an intimate experience. Therefore, no packed auditorium. Yay!

THE MAIN EVENT

Be aware, the show was not a reproduction of Harry Potter. It is a wonderful spin-off. There is no real story plot. It felt more like a conversation between the actors and audience. There were even a couple of audience participation moments.

The main point of the story is to introduce the ghosts of the tavern/auditorium that we were in. There were a few characters that acted as professors and students.

These moments were not all family-friendly. This was definitely an ADULT XXX event. Toys, innuendos, and on-stage performances were of the sexual nature. To give you a specific example, the show ended with audience members competing to see who gave the best lap-dance.

Another X rated moment:

Audience members were chosen to go down to the stage. They all had to perform the best levitation spell. However, one audience member did not bring his own wand. So, what do you think an actor did? He brought out a dildo and said “I’m sure you’re not used to all that weight”.

It was an incredibly funny line during a very confusing moment.

One of my friends made an accurate comment during the show. She said “I feel like we’re at a frat party”.

There were funny pop-culture moments too. At one point, they played “party like its your birthday” for an audience members birthday.

To be honest with you, it is not what I expected. There was nothing in the description of the event that pointed towards this type of show. I was happy with the event, but a little confused by the turn of events.

A WARNING

As a new Fever fan and follower, I have learned that you MUST BE PREPARED!

First, know your body! If you are a lightweight like me, you need to be ready. The drinks that they provide are no joke. I recommend NOT drinking before one of these events (like I did).

Second, eat throughout the day. You do not want a sudden onslaught of drunken-ness when you stand up at the end of a 2-hour long show.

Third, use the bathroom BEFORE the show starts! The only intermissions are when the drinks come out, but it happens quickly. Also, the drinks tend to be photo opportunities that you would be disappointed to miss.

Finally, dress appropriately. I don’t mean fancy. I mean in line with the theme. It’s not necessary to dress up, but it’s cool! I don’t think you have to go all-out if you are not a cosplay kind of person. But dressing in the color scheme, or with a cool graphic t-shirt would really add to your experience.

For example, I wore thick burgundy boots, black skinny jeans, and a snake-skin crop top. It was not cosplay, but it was in the general dark witch-and-wizard realm. As Project Runway has taught me, cohesion is not about matching, it’s about the vibe.
