BIOGRAPHY

CHRISTINE FINCH

Christine Finch lives in Upstate New York with her husband, baby girl, and two dogs. She is an elementary education student at State University of New York, with a concentration in literacy. Reading has been her greatest passion since she could hold a book, and she has been writing short fiction since grade school. Aside from reading and writing, she loves spending time with her family outdoors.

JANAY MCTIGUE

Janay Mctigue is the mother of a teenage son and resides on the West Coast of sunny Florida. She has spent over a decade caring for the elderly in the medical field. Janay had always found creative writing to be a challenge but came to Christine with the premise for Maverick’s Endeavors and a dream to make Maverick’s fantasy world a reality. She loves listening to music and cooking up fresh, homemade recipes.

JANAY AND CHRISTINE

Janay and Christine have been friends since childhood, and they’ve been writing professionally since 2013. Despite Christine’s move across the country in 2018, and no matter how busy their lives have been, they never gave up on that dream. The duo has no intention of slowing down and know that the first installment of Maverick’s Endeavors is a wondrous beginning to a long journey of published writing.

OUR INSPIRATION

About our inspiration for book one: Janay credits many places in nature, such as the whimsical forests in Washington state, the ice caves in Iceland, and the glowworm caves in New Zealand that helped set the stage for the different places that Maverick and his crew visited on their journey.
Also, just like most authors, many of our characters’ personas are derived from ourselves, and the people we know.
Our favorite and least favorite characters: Although we both love Maverick dearly, if we had to pick, we agree that Vonya is our favorite character.

Janay’s least favorite character is King Treant’s father, King Edrick, whose history will be revealed in book 2. Conversely, Christine’s least favorite characters are Felix and Dran (Maverick’s father).

Maverick is sixteen and is not yet a warrior like most Bubbalyons his age. He has never ventured outside the waters of Merrowa, until the day his father sends him on a dangerous quest. He must travel into the enemy territory of Deep Haven Woods. His mission: retrieve medicinal leaves from the sacred Alumia tree and save the life of his sickly grandfather.

THE TWIST

Before he can succeed, a war ensues between the two tribes. He is soon captured by the tyrannical, Feroarian King Treant who demands that he travels to the Forbidden Mountains. Maverick, his father Dran, and three of Treant’s reluctant soldiers must unite as they embark on a perilous journey with the lives of their loved ones at stake.

REVIEWS

“This is a great book for pre teens and adults, it would also be a great bedtime story book. Love the twist and turns. I can’t wait to read it again with my 12 year old grandson. The mythical creatures and worlds are so descriptive you can close your eyes and picture them perfectly “ – AMAZON REVIEW

“The details of this world practically drug me into the book itself and provided me with amazing visuals. The female lead Vonya is to die for & the MC Maverick is easy to love given his kindness and bravery. I was rooting for him immediately. Now I’m waiting on a cliff for the second book!” – AMAZON REVIEW

“The book is described very well: the setting, the characters and their characterization and the evolution of them. The “pacific” feud between two kinds, very distinguished from one another, will bring their subjects to undertake a journey to discover a powerful medicine that much needed by both factions.
During this travel each team member will learn that not everything they used to know was true, or most; but on the other hand, someone will try in every possible way to discredit the command effectiveness of the field officer.

Full of life-lessons, mercy, power and trust: these are the main point I can describe this novel.

Can’t say nothng bad on this book. It’s very facinating, challenging, adventurous and educational, in some ways. Suitable for everyone who wants to travel with their minds and relax from the real world!” – GOODREADS REVIEW

“This book was definitely a nice comfort read!

As you well know, one of the most important concepts to me when reading a book is imagery. And this book did not fail to transport me to its wooden lands, magical wars, and warm romance…” – GOODREADS REVIEW

“I recommend this book to anyone who loves intricate world building and fun adventure read with twist and turns.” – GOODREADS REVIEW

“This book was super amazing! I loved the adventure & all the trails the characters go thru. Can’t wait till the next book!!” – AMAZON REVIEW

CHARACTERS

Maverick AUTHORS C. FINCH AND J. MCTIGUE
“The father who raised me with such care for all these years would have never betrayed me this way! I feel like you are nothing but a stranger to me out here.” -Maverick

MAVERICK

Bubbalyon.
Born in early summer, Maverick is an extremely kind, charismatic, and free spirited 16-year-old Bubbalyon boy. Before going on his most recent adventures, he spent most of his time playing hide and seek and riding sea animals with his 9-year-old sister Shellie and the other neighboring children in the waters of Merrowa. Additionally, he enjoys racing them on his own, on the dangerous outskirts of town. Maverick has a loving relationship with his mother and little sister but has a tough time holding up to his father Dran’s high expectations.

Although Maverick is selfless and has a beautiful heart, he is immature, naive, gullible, impulsive, and can be a bit of a pushover.
“Being brave means being able to face your fears, not run away from them.” -Vonya

VONYA

Feroarian.
Almost seventeen years old, Vonya was born in winter and has been a fierce warrior since the age of twelve. Her father is the highest-ranked warrior in all of Deep Haven, and she’s second in command. Vonya’s father is often not around, leaving her to care for her younger brother Hunter. Her mother passed away when she was young, leaving her to practically raise him on her own.

She is stubborn, explosive, loud, tends to be overly judgmental, and doesn’t have any friends. Contrastingly, she is also kind, loyal, intelligent, calculated, and fair. She may not be as dainty as the flowers in her hair, but Vonya is a born leader.
Dran Authors C. Finch and J. Mctigue
“…we are all quite equal when it comes to our humanity. Feroarians know love, kindness, joy, and humor just as we do. Just as equally, they feel pain, suffering, and loss.” -Dran

DRAN

Bubbalyon.
Dran, born in spring, is a calculated, fierce warrior. He is King Ryzozen’s first in command and, prior to the war, was the executive goods tradesman between the Bubbalyons and Feroarians. His love for his wife Nora and daughter Shellie is obvious, but his relationship with his son Maverick had always been a bit strained, due to Dran’s warped ideology about “what it means to be a man”. Their relationship really took a toll when Maverick turned ten, and Dran decided that he “shouldn’t be babied anymore”. About forty-something, Dran is currently facing a midlife crisis. While Dran typically makes intelligent and calculated decisions, his midlife crisis has caused him to make irrational, impulsive decisions.

Dran’s favorite activities are combat training and constructing animal traps.

“Power doesn’t always present itself in the form of force, but in my case, the form of intelligence.” – FELIX

FELIX

Feroarian.
Born in spring, Felix is cunning and devious, yet cowardly. He is a warrior that had never been held in high regard until just before the group’s journey to the Alumia tree, but his mysterious father, Brecken, has very close ties to King Treant. Brecken is like a shadow- everywhere, yet not heard. Felix, on the other hand, is very outspoken and complains whenever he feels inconvenienced. He has a strong desire for power, wealth, fame, and to please his father and king. Felix’s mother passed away under controversial circumstances in his youth, and the situation is rarely discussed among the Feroarian villagers.

Felix spends most of his time reading and collecting animal bones.
Orion

“…my wife and little girl mean more to me than anything.” – ORION

ORION

Feroarian.
Born in fall, Orion is a tough, strong, warrior and village hunter, but there is more than what meets the eye with this character. On the surface, he is brutish, yet quiet. However, when you get to know him, Orion is a tender-hearted, loving family man. He has a wife named Magnolia and a young daughter named Kahlia, and he has dreams to expand their sweet family.

Aside from spending time with his family, Orion’s passions are woodworking and crafting.
